About Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is a faster, gentler way to remove unwanted hair that produces great results.
It applies precisely controlled pulses of energy (electrical and light, with cooling), reaching into the hair follicles that lie beneath the skin. The energy heats the hair, right down to the bottom of the root, destroying it without damaging surrounding tissue or skin.

Laser Hair Removal Science
Each of your hair follicles is in one of 3 stages of growth at any given time. The "active growth" (anagen) phase, "regressive" (categen) phase, and "resting" (telogen) phase.
The laser is most effective at disabling "actively growing" hairs during treatment. It is during anagen that the hair shaft contains the greatest abundance of melanin, the target of the laser light. Many hair follicles are in their resting or regressive stages at any given time. The length of growth cycle also vary slightly by body area. There is no single technique that is perfect for all clinical applications. The skin type, hair type and what has caused the hair to grow will depend on the amount of treatments that a client requires. AGAPE LASER uses Candela GentleLASE Plus, Alexandrite 744. The GentleLASE™ by Candela is precise and can be computer-adjusted to the exact parameters that will disable the hair germ cells in the follicle, minimally affecting the surrounding skin, and considerably increasing the efficiency of the hair removal process. By delivering an effective energy beam deep into the tissue, the Alexandrite laser ensures predictable results, patient comfort, and a high degree of safety.
Not all lasers are created equal. There is a great deal of misleading information and claims about laser hair removal, leading to unrealistic expectations by patients and, in some cases, severe skin damage.

Lasers are optical devices which produce intense coherent, collimated and mono-chromatic beams of light. A laser consists of an active medium such as a crystal, gas or liquid that amplifies light when excited by an external energy source (a flash amp or electric discharge, for example).
When the appropriate medium is employed, the laser can be finely tuned to generate a very narrow band of light wavelengths (such as the individual colors of the visible spectrum).
Alexandrite long pulse lasers are very effective when the skin type is light and the hair is dark enough to attract the laser within the follicle. Again, just because it is an alexandrite does not make it the best on the market. Precision cooling of the skin prior to laser application, exact delivery of an effective energy beam deep into the tissue and proper training can make all the difference between maintenance and permanence.
Nd:YAG long pulse lasers work on all skin types and are the superior laser when it comes to treating darker skin types (3-6) or patients of color such as: Afro-American, Asian, Hispanic, Mediterranean, European and Middle Eastern. If a traditional laser hair removal device is used on darker skin types, the result is usually serious burning or loss of skin pigment (hypo-pigmentation). However, by utilizing a long pulse Nd:YAG, dark skinned patients will have no problem because the laser pierces through the melanin in the skin and just reaches for the dark hair follicle.
